Specialty fiber splicers are mainly used to process non-standard optical fibers, which are significantly different from ordinary communication optical fibers (such as single-mode and multi-mode optical fibers) in terms of materials, structures or performance, and are suitable for special scenarios and needs. The following are the main types of special optical fibers and their characteristics:
1. Polarization Maintaining Fiber (PM Polarization Maintaining Fiber)
Features: Maintain the polarization state of the optical signal through special designs (such as stress zones or elliptical cores), suitable for polarization-sensitive applications.
Application scenarios: fiber optic gyroscopes, quantum communications, lasers, sensor systems, etc.
Difficulty in splicing: The polarization axis of the optical fiber needs to be precisely aligned, and the splicing loss requirement is extremely low (usually less than 0.02dB).
2. Large Diameter Fiber
Features: The core diameter is large (usually greater than 200μm), suitable for transmitting high-power optical signals or multi-mode light.
